Topic 1

Question of Preserving Cultural Heritage

In the latter half of the 20th Century, and as we speak, ASEAN nations are undergoing rapid development and urbanisation. The dark side of this economic boom is the cost of the region's rich culture. ASEAN, one of the world’s most culturally diverse regions, now faces the real possibility of cultural dilution. As more and more threats emerge, delegates must find a way to stop this erosion or this cultural treasure might be lost forever.

Topic 2

Despite its many natural advantages, ASEAN’s geographical location has one major tradeoff: it is the most disaster-prone region in the world. In 2023, ASEAN member states made up 3 of the top 10 most disaster-prone countries on the globe, with the Philippines and Indonesia placing first and second respectively. Thus, disaster management is a vital point of discussion in the ASCC. Delegates must navigate the social, economic and political nuances of disaster management in ASEAN as they seek to meet the challenge of regression, interference and local collaboration. With real lives hanging in the balance, every second counts. Tick-tock, delegates.
